Christy and Lotta at her Brooklyn studio. Last spring I was fortunate enough to visit Lotta Jansdotter's Brooklyn studio to see all of her amazing designs, and double lucky that she happen to be there to tell me about them. Longtime fans of her organic design sense, Progress has carried Lotta's products from day one. In addition to her print making kits, journals, and books, we now carry several pieces of pottery from Fishes Eddy, and a simple beautiful dish towel. Look for more from this lovely Swedish designer in our shop over the next several months.
How is it that certain objects lift our moods? What is the alchemy of design, the energy from the hands of the makers, and the context in which we come by these objects that makes them special to us? It is hard to put a finger on what makes an object desirable. -The usefulness, the materials, the organic beauty? Flipping through magazines and clicking around Pinterest, it strikes me that certain objects are widely loved. Over and over again, I see these objects being featured in homes, articles, and on "Things I want" lists. We carry several of these universally desired products here at PROGRESS, I'm happy to say. Here are a few:
PROGRESS is now on Pinterest. If you are on Pinterest too, you already know why we jumped in. If not, let me explain the wonders of Pinterest. First of all, it's nice. The motivation behind collecting photos that you like or love and "pinning" them to a board is to create visual personal note boards, to share beautiful or interesting images and ideas. 99% of the comments and images are positive. This is a form of social media where one can truly relax and enjoy without being bombarded by careless posts. It's a forum for sharing, dreaming, planning, discovering, and playing. Second, it's a place for us to share images of our products, and the things that inspire PROGRESS. Third, it is the 3rd largest form of social media, which sounds good, but I'm not sure how that directly applies to us. So for now, we are focused on building a library of products and inspiration to share with the world, and invite you to stop by or jump in for yourself, unless of course you're not Pinterested.
Buying a sofa is a big deal. Aside from the financial investment, there is an emotional investment. We spend a lot of time on our sofas, more than in our beds. We eat, read, chat, nap, space-out, cuddle, and sometimes watch TV there too. Now that we can haul our computers around, the sofa often becomes a work place, it's where friends gather, and pets sleep when we're not at home. Sofas must withstand a ton of use, beverages, crumbs, and drool. We demand quite a lot from this piece of furniture, not only must it be useful, comfortable, and durable, it must feel stylish to us, it must represent the kind of home we see ourselves living in.
Often the hardest part of purchasing a sofa is the need to feel like we are making a sound choice, like the color will be right, and the value is good. It's a purchase that sometimes makes us feel vulnerable. We get that, we are right there with you. We don't want to sell you a sofa to make a sale. We want to help you fulfill your vision for your space and lifestyle. Selling sofas is easy. Helping you make your home a haven is what we love to do. Happy people, beautiful homes, those are the things that make us most happy. If you need help, have a simple or silly question, don't hesitate to ask us. If we don't have something that suits your needs, we'll send you someplace that does, because that's PROGRESS.
When I was a kid living in the north west, I'd come home from school on rainy days to the coziness of our home filled with good smells and soft light. There is no faster way for me to feel at home than to light a candle, or two, or three.
At the shop. we are in love with Capri Blue candles, and have been burning Volcano lately. The warm tropical scent fills large spaces without being overwhelming.
